In Years 9 & 10, students cover the key elements of the Essential Learnings Framework at its most developed level, supplemented by a focus on particular subject disciplines such as English, Maths, Outdoor Education, Materials, Design and Technology, Health and Physical Education and the Arts.

In Years 11 & 12, students apply the skills they have learned in the Essential Learnings Framework within the subject disciplines they choose. Each student has an individually negotiated Learning Plan, using the teaching resources and support of the school, community or the Flexible Learning Network. They study subjects which contribute to the award of the Tasmanian Certificate of Education (and in case of designated subjects count towards the calculation of a Tertiary Entrance Score) or the award of nationally accredited and industry recognised Vocational Education and Training (VET) qualifications.
